I've always liked fall '77 shows better than spring. Does that count as playing the cool guy card?

That being said, I do like 5/8 better than 5/9. 5/7 gets a lot of attention but I've never been a fan of that show.

5/22/77 (dicks picks) is a 5 star show. most people would also classify 6/9/77 as 5 stars, myself included.

I agree with Lobster's original point...there's no way you give 5/27/89 5 stars.

I'm with ya billydlions

esp the 5/22 and 6/9 picks for 77

5/22 absolutely rivals 5/8

I dig on Fall 77 as well.

My apologies as I did hijack this thread.

Unfortunately I don't have much to add about that May 29th, 1989 show - I don't think about or listen to much of 89 in general.

The problem I have with the Fall (October/November) shows from 1977 is the recordings have Keith jacked up too much, and he reconfigured his keyboard to sound off this clanky, kind of toyish noise. It's not as good as Spring 1977. Plus the boys picked up the pace in fall 1977 and the songs in my opinion don't sound as good. For instance Supplication was forever ruined after they finished May 1977. They played it too fast and it became too sloppy.

I will say the Alpine valley run of summer 1989 is a 5 star run, however. I think that's a fantastic run of shows

Better than the Hartford '87 2 day run?

I think so. The Hartford 87 run is awesome though. I really like the second night second set. I think there are 5 star shows in the 80's and yes very early 90's. In the end it's apples and oranges. Very tough to compare the Alpine valley run I mention to the 2 RFK 1973 gigs. Band is different, time was different. Playing on both runs is exceptional.

Tito - did the first 87 Hartford today. Amazing show. Will go by your recommendation and hit the second tomorrow. Thank you.

I'm not a fan of giving 5 stars because they played Dark Star but if there's any 5 star potential show from '89 you've got to include 10-16-89 (Nightfall of Diamonds). Great show, 2nd set was legendary.
